Jekyll Island Photography by Tamara Gibson Photography
Tamara Gibson takes a natural approach to creating heirloom imagery for individuals and families. I love to photograph you in real, meaningful settings that convey the essence of who you are and what you love. I work hard to make sure the entire process is stress-free for our clients from start to finish, with the end result being beautifully crafted photo prints and products to be treasured for many years to come. I’ve been taking professional portraits since 2009 for a wide variety of clients. Many of the people I’ve photograph become our friends for years to come. I completely and absolutely love what I do!
If this is your family's first time working with a professional photographer, it can be difficult to know what to expect. What should I bring? Will there be enough time to get the perfect picture? Will my child feel uncomfortable in front of the camera? I completely understand these feelings of concern; you are not alone! I am here to work for and with you to make your session as stress-free as possible. Remember, this is supposed to be fun! My method of working is simple: I tailor my photography to you and your family. Each session is a unique experience, built from the ground up just for you. In our initial consultation, we'll discuss things like the family schedule, favorite locations, and attention spans to make your photo day a smashing success. This is your day to relax and enjoy your family; I'll do the rest!
Planning in advance is the key to success! If your family or child has a daily routine, it's best to schedule the photo session in a way that works with, not against, this routine. If your child has a certain naptime, we'll plan the shoot to be either before or after she/he wakes up to prevent tantrums and fatigue. If your baby generally sleeps during the afternoon, a morning session may be best. I am here to make your session a success, and will work with you individually to find a time and place that fits the family!
When scheduling an outdoor portrait session you may notice that I recommend shooting during a very precise time of day-generally the last sixty to ninety minutes before the sun has completely set. This special window known to photographers as “The Golden Hour” is the period of time when the light from the sun is at its most perfect. With its long rays diffused across the entire sky, the light creates a flattering glow and shimmer for picture perfect skin tones and deliciously warm portraits. I also recommend morning sessions. Early morning sessions provide a more ethereal feel to portraits that I love as well.
If we've chosen an outdoor location for your photos, we will most likely be at the mercy of the weather! If the day turns out to be extremely hot, which can be dangerous and frustrating for the family, we'll find an alternate date for the photos. Similarly, for rainstorms, snow, or extreme cold, I'd rather reschedule than push everyone into an uncomfortable place! I will be in communication the day before and day of the session to discuss any challenges that may arise and deal with them in the most convenient way possible for your family.
Below is some general information about Jekyll Island:
The southernmost island of the Golden Isles, Jekyll Island was purchased in 1886 by a group of wealthy families as a private retreat. By 1900, The Jekyll Island Club membership included the Rockefellers, Morgans, Cranes and Goulds and represented over one-sixth of the world’s wealth. The Club closed in 1942 and Jekyll Island was purchased by the State of Georgia in 1947.
Today, this era of Jekyll Island’s history can be dramatically revisited with a tram tour of the
National Historic Landmark District, including many of the opulent mansions their millionaire owners called “cottages”. Jekyll Island offers an abundance of recreational activities that are sure to please visitors of all ages. A variety of amenities including: ten miles of white sand beaches, 63 holes of golf, an outdoor tennis complex, a waterpark, fishing pier, nature centers, 20 miles of bike trails and the
Georgia Sea Turtle Center are enough tokeep any visitor busy. Accommodations are invitingly varied and include a grand historic hotel, oceanfront properties and even camping. Jekyll Island, once a haven for America’s elite, now beckons to all.
The island will boast three new hotels, an all-new beachfront
convention center (with more than 78,000 square feet of function space), a beautifully redesigned gateway corridor to the island, a beach village shopping and dining district and many more enhancements. Owned by the State of Georgia and managed by the Jekyll Island Authority, the island’s development is limited to just 35 percent of the available land area to preserve the critical barrier island ecosystem. Great lengths have been taken to honor this ratio while the highly anticipated revitalization of Jekyll Island moves forward.
